Customer Reviews
Seems too inexpensive to be of any value...right? (WRONG!)
I don't think too many thieves out here in California are aware that this thing is available, which means that the first time some idiot tries to rip me off,,,he/she is in for a shocking surprise. Added to the security of one or two high-rated locking devices, and I'd say that your chances of losing your bike are almost zero. Even working at any chains, cables or lock-cylinders will set this thing off.
It works exactly as advertized and installed on my new Mongoose XR-75 without a problem. (10 to 15 minutes.)
You need to get a 9V battery for this little beauty.
The only oddity about the unit is that it is manufactured and packaged in China, and the documentation is understandable, but quite quirky. However, the simplicity of the unit renders this problem meaningless, as anybody can figure out how it operates within seconds. (Any thieves will have much more important things to be figuring out - like who their cell-buddy is going to be.) :-)
IMPORTANT STUFF;
Yes, it is loud! (Ouch!)
Yes, the sensitivity to movement is adjustable into 3 ranges. (And it really works.)
As inexpensive as the unit is, the enclosure is very strong, so any attempt to yank it off your bike, or locate and remove the battery, will be met with major resistance and ear-scorching protests.
With a little reading and head-scratching, you can create your own 4 digit code to shut it off, which disables the initial default code.
I hope I don't have to find out how effective this Alarm can be, but with this in mind, I have a little suggestion;
Take a tip from me and buy yourself a small personal container of lava-hot pepper spray. (Not a product name that I know of.) If you are shopping, or dinning, and your bike alarm shouts out, your next problem might be the confrontation of some no-neck low-life who has the gall to steal your bike, (and possibly mangle your precious body.) I'm not sure about the legality of protecting your property from such goons, but I AM sure about the legality of protecting your person if said goon happens to decide to use you for Kung-Foo practice.
I recommend this unit to everybody.
After installing and testing this device on my bike, I had that thought of "the idea is so simple, how come I didn't think of that?!?". This is a dynamite little package thst really works!
I was surprised at how sensitive the little guy is when set to high, but that is a good thing. I would however suggest that for maximum security, use red threadlocker on the bolts and pair it up with a quality set of locks and cables on your bike. I went with the The Club motorcycle club MC 305 to go through my rear wheel and frame, a cheap Bell U lock through my front wheel and frame, and a Kryptonite Kryptoflex 1218 Combo Cable Bicycle Lock (1/2-Inch x 6-Foot) through my saddle and around my frame. Yes, I know it is overkill, but the whole idea is making it harder to steal so that the bike thief sees all the trouble he will have to go through just to get the bike, that he decides to move on. Adding this little unassuming module underneath my saddle gives me an edge over the thief that decides to take a crack at it.
I keep my bike in a locked garage most of the time, but it is nice to know that it will still be there when I return while on a trip to the local store. What a great little invention!
